There are lots of fun things to do during the holiday season. There are activities from Christmas tree lightings to pet photo night with Santa to Christmas themed shows such as a Miracle on Easy Street, The Nutcracker, and The Trans-Siberian Orchestra Christmas Concert.
The junior high and high school choir students performed their winter choir concert on December 4th at 7:30. The high school choir performed “The National Anthem,” “The Lowellville Alma Mater,” “Sleigh Ride”, and “Be Glad this Festive Day.” “Under the tree” was performed as a trio by Kaden Primous, Hadassah Rivera, and Zak Sargent. The junior high choir performed “Wreath of Carols”, “Winter Bells”, and “Snow is Falling.”
. The junior high and high school band concert was on the 11th of December at 7:30. The band performed “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”, “Frozen Medley”, and “Oh Holy Night”. To prepare for this concert the band worked in sectionals and as a whole band. Drum Major Reeve Donatelli said, “I am most looking forward to being able to show our progression as a band from last year.”
The jazz band is performing at Carlson’s in Lowellville on December 18th.
A Miracle On Easy Street is a popular show in Youngstown during the holiday season. The show is shown at the DeYor Performing Arts Center on December 13th through December 15th. A Miracle on Easy Street is not a traditional musical. According to Kaden Primous, “Easy Street is a show that tries to sum up what Christmas is about and is a show full of many dancers, singing, and fun.”
The Primous family has been a part of the Easy Street production for 10 years. The oldest four of the Primous kids, Kaden, Eliza, Jakob, and Rylen, are singing “Sleigh Ride” among other performances in the show. Ellah, Lukas, and Kaden Primous will be performing a scene with hats called “Hats Half Off.”They will be illustrating different scenes from different Christmas movies and scenarios while explaining what is happening without talking or singing. They will panomine using different facial expressions, body language, and hats to help the audience understand what movie or scenarios they are portraying. Eliza Primous said, “My favorite part of the show is when you get to see the kids excited and you can tell that they will remember it for a long time.”
There are many other Christmas performances happening throughout the Valley. The Nutcracker was performed on December 7th and 8th at the DeYor Performing Arts Center. The Nutcracker was presented by the BalletWestern Reserve Dance School. The Trans-Siberian Orchestra returned to the Covelli Center on Friday November 22nd to perform their Lost Christmas Eve Tour. The tour is continuing at 3:00 Friday, December 27th at the Cleveland Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse.
Many people visit Kraynaks, the holiday store, to walk through Santa’s Christmas Land. In addition to being a large store, Kranyaks has 300 feet of Christmas trees, each decorated with a different theme and decorations corresponding to the theme.
The Holiday Parade Light Up Night took place on December 6th in downtown Youngstown. The parade started at 6 pm and the Christmas tree lighting was soon after. The Covelli Center is hosting Disney On Ice from December 12 to December 15th. Disney On Ice is focusing on the Disney movies Encanto and Frozen. Many people visit different holiday decorated displays, from the 80 Christmas tree in Fellows Riverside Garden to the interactive Christmas Light Drive-Thru in Boardman Park.
