The Lowellville Baseball season started on a good note with their incredible win against East. The team is led by five seniors Liam Bartlett, Cody Nolfi, Geno Perry, Braylon Bolger, and John Allaby and coached by Dan Dougherty.
Liam Bartlett is a pitcher and his strengths on the field is his throwing velocity and his knowledge and technique. Liam wants to accomplish a lot this season. He said, “Make the MVAC first team, break the school record for strikeouts, and win the district championship.” Liam’s favorite baseball memory is his 11 strikeout game against Mineral Ridge because it was a very monumental moment.
Geno helps the team get better by helping the team stay focused for games and practice. Geno’s favorite memories are the center field meetups the team has before every game and every practice. Geno Perry plays center field and his strength is to be able to read the ball while it’s in the air to make the catch. Geno said he wants to win the MVAC this year. “Winning the MVAC is the goal because that hasn’t happened in years.”
Second baseman and pitcher Braylon Bolger’s strength as a second baseman is having a good view of the field. Braylon said, “My first time pitching in high school baseball was my favorite memory because it showed how my coaches trusted me and I proved what I can do on the mound.”
Cody Nolfi, a third baseman, talked about his strengths as a player. He said, “Being able to field and throw the ball cleanly.” Cody wants to win the MVAC and win districts. “Making sure we have team chemistry is important because I feel like it is important to be connected as a team.” Cody’s favorite memory is bonding with the team during center field meet ups.
First Baseman John Allaby said, “Scooping the ball if the throw is wild” is his strength at first base. John’s favorite memory is meeting with the team before every game in center field. John said the team stays focussed and connected by, “…having good morale, I like to stay positive even if the game is not going so well.”
Head coach Dan Dougherty is most looking forward to the first game of the season against Struthers. Coach Dougherty’s goal this season is to “…play for a district championship, because I feel like the team has worked hard and had a good offseason so it would be nice to see it all come together, especially for the seniors.”
Coach Dougherty expectations for the first game is that he wants everyone to play hard and be competitive throughout the whole game. Coach Dougherty wants to see during practice and games his players giving 110%. “I want the team to hustle and play for each other and not worry about individual stats.”
Good luck to the Lowellville baseball team for the rest of their season!
