As the upcoming softball season begins, the Rockets are filled with determination and excitement. Each player has their own personal goals and achievements they want to see the team accomplish.
Junior Giulana Alfano is most looking forward to playing the team’s rivals this year, such as: Western Reserve, Mineral Ridge, and Springfield. Her personal goal for this season is to get the best hitting average, “I have been going to hitting lessons with my hitting coach twice a week now,” she said. When discussing her favorite aspect of the sport, she said, “I like it all. It is just all a confidence booster when you get good at the sport because it isn’t that easy.”
Senior pitcher Morgan Lewis has been playing softball for four years. A goal she wants to see her team achieve is getting a winning record. Personally she wants to have less walks while pitching and improve her hitting. “I plan on doing this by staying focused in the batter’s box,” she said. Morgan especially enjoys “…getting to play with all my teammates, especially my sister McKenna.”
Sophomore McKenna Lewis is alo anticipating a winning season this year. Her goal for this year is to improve her pitching. “I work hard at it and I attend pitching lessons regularly,” she said. She is also looking forward to playing with her sister, Morgan, for her last season. Her favorite aspects of softball include pitching, hitting, and being able to play with her friends.
Freshman Paola Andino Rodriguez is setting some personal goals for the season, such as improving her fielding skills and base running. When asked her favorite aspects of softball she said, “how unexpected it is and how much fun you have with your team.”
Laila Rivera is a senior and has been playing softball for three years now. She is looking forward to motivating and helping her teammates throughout the season. “I would love to achieve good team chemistry and have good relationships with my teammates,” she said. Her favorite parts of softball are the bus rides where the team talks, sings, and style each other’s hair. When asked what her senior season means to her she said, “I feel like it’s our job as seniors to make this season memorable for ourselves and our team.”
The Rockets started off their season with a win defeating the Sebring Trojans 7-1 on March 26!
