As the end of the school year approaches, seniors are nearing the end of a chapter, but also approaching the beginning of new ones. At this time of year seniors have so much to look forward to like their senior sunrise, senior trip, last day of school, and graduation. However, the one thing they are no longer looking forward to is school work. This is the common phenomena known as senioritis. Senioritis is defined as feeling a lack of motivation and decreased effort from seniors as they approach the end of their schooling.
Senioritis is extremely common among all high school seniors right now and Lowellville is no exception. While seniors are excited for what’s ahead, completing schoolwork is becoming more of a chore as they get closer to graduation. This poses the question: Is there a cure for senioritis? I asked some of our Lowellville seniors about their experiences with senioritis, and what they do to prevent it.
Maddie Esposito has been struggling to stay motivated to come to school and complete her work. She feels the cause of her senioritis is the fact that graduation is so close and she is ready to be done. Maddie copes with senioritis with the help of the support from her family. “My mom does a really good job at trying to keep me motivated,” she says.
Kenzie Mccormick has also been feeling very unmotivated. “I’m just ready for summer and the college experience. I can’t wait to try something new,” she says.
Kenzie has struggled the most with getting her assignments done, but she gets through by reminding herself that she needs to finish because her senior year is almost over. She says, “Embrace the moment and make the most of the rest of my senior year.”
Alana Lopez is experiencing the same struggles as Kenzie, and she finds that writing things down in a calendar helps her stay organized and motivated.
Gianna Clement feels that the end of the year causes her to have a lighter workload, but she still struggles to find the motivation to complete her work.
Morgan Lewis also experiences this, as she has two study halls during the school day, but not as much work to complete. Both of them struggle with motivation to come to school, especially since they are so close to graduation.
No matter what struggles seniors might be facing nearing the end of their high school journey, it is clear that you are not alone. Try to stay motivated and enjoy the time you have left! You can even take advice from your fellow classmates and work together to finish the year strong! Seniors are in the home stretch and you’ll be turning your tassels before you know it.
