As spring break came and went quickly this year, many students at Lowellville found different ways to relax, reconnect, and recharge before heading into the final stretch of their school year.
Freshman, Luka Mastronikolas spent his break close to home but doing a lot of different things. “I had a nice relaxing Easter—hung out with family and friends, and rode bikes to Dunkin’ with Dom,” he said. A highlight of his week was winning a baseball game against Western Reserve and spending time with his younger cousins playing tag, duck-duck-goose, and mini games during the holiday. “We didn’t have our big Greek Orthodox party this year,” Luka added, “but we celebrated both Easters at my grandma’s with food and games.” He also used the break to get ahead on chores, clean his room, and enjoy a bit of extra sleep.
Elizabeth Rossi, a senior, also enjoyed her break locally, spending most of her time with friends. “I spent more time with my friends over break, but I also enjoyed some time alone,” she said. For her, the most memorable part was getting to hang out with people she might not see much after graduation. “My favorite memory was spending a lot of time with my friends before we all leave for college this summer.” Although she didn’t travel, Elizabeth said she discovered a new interest in nature and enjoyed the chance to sleep in.
Freshman, Lily Sargent, spent her break hanging out with friends and attending baseball games. “I got to see an old friend at a baseball game,” she said. It was a surprising and meaningful moment. She appreciated the chance to have some down time. “I got to clean and feel less stressed—I just had more time to do stuff and get things done.”
Unlike other students, Senior Christian Coira, went on a cruise with his family to the Bahamas. His favorite memory was “ being on the beach in the Bahamas scuba diving with my family and being in water as clear as what you drink.
Whether it was through hanging out with friends, family gatherings, or simply catching up on sleep, students made the most of the shorter spring break in their own ways. They returned to school a little more rested, and with some new memories to carry into the rest of the fast moving school year.
