Introducing the two new yearbook advisors Mrs.Kerpsack and Mrs.DeLuca. Both have been Language Arts teachers at Lowellville for six years and are very excited to have been offered this position. They are both looking forward to, “working with the students and hearing their ideas.” More than anything, they’re happy they can do this together.
Both of them have many great ideas to help improve the yearbook and make things easier. One of these ideas is to give the seniors more of a leadership role by pairing them together with the freshmen or students who are new to the yearbook staff. This will help them learn how to use the Jostens website and allow their pages to be proofread. With both of them being brand new to the yearbook, they will be relying on the seniors and returning students to help them navigate the technology. They plan on having students check each other’s pages, read aloud to catch any mistakes, and to be editied by editors, and finally be evaluated by them. One of their biggest goals for the book this year is to not only make sure every club is covered, but to highlight the seniors, as this is the “Seniors’ Book.” Both Mrs.DeLuca and Mrs.Kerpsack are planning on bringing back “Senior Wills” as well as other possibilites such as “Senior Memories.”
One of the biggest challenges this year will be that due to their classes, they won’t be able to have full “workshop” days like the club was able to have in the past. To overcome this, they are planning to have the students either stay later after school or have the pages worked on independently.
Another aspect they were worried about was getting cameras so that the pictures used in the yearbook looked professional and weren’t just taken on someone’s phone. Luckily, with some fundraising and help from Jostens they were able to order two brand new cameras. To save up for future equipment or needs they are holding fundraisers such as senior ads and business ads in next year’s yearbook
Mrs. DeLuca and Mrs. Kerpsack have proven time and time again that they make a great team together whether that’s their conjoined Media class or being advisors of Student Council. On behalf of the Yearbook Staff, we are all excited about this new chapter and can’t wait to see what our new advisors have in store for us.
