The Lowellville Varsity Volleyball team just rounded out their regular season with a non-conference record of 4-14 and a record of 2-12 in the MVAC. This year the Rockets faced many competitive conference and non-conference teams. This season was a very challenging one which brought the team closer together as a family.
Over the summer, the team participated in many team bonding events to help form this close knit bond they share. Some of the events included tie dying shirts, swimming, water balloons, and going to eat together. Spending time together over the summer doing things outside of volleyball helped form their close bond as a team. The team also attended an All American Volleyball Camp which placed them with a college player and gave them a one on one experience to gain more knowledge and skill. The Rockets also attended a scrimmage tournament held at the Community Literacy Workforce and Cultural Center in Campbell, Ohio. This tournament gave them the opportunity to play teams they do not normally play in their season.
This season, the team focused a lot on the mental portion of the game as well as the physical. Coach Freed helped the team by having players participate in yoga and mindfulness exercises. These exercises helped the team work to improve mental aspects of their game including visualization, positive self-talk, and goal setting.
Senior Elizabeth Rossi said her favorite game of the season was senior night against Jackson Milton. She said, “There were a lot of fans there supporting and it was nice to see students there supporting the team as well.”
Another senior, Morgan Lewis, shared her favorite game of this season was when the team played Western Reserve at Western Reserve. “It was a close game with a competitive team we normally are not that close with.” Morgan enjoyed the game overall because we played well as a team.
My favorite memory from this season was definitely senior night. I loved sharing such a special game with the same group of people I have played with since 7th grade. This season may not have been our best record wise but I love all of the memories made. Our summer team bonding was very fun and helped us grow together as a team, making memories we will carry with us after graduation.
The Rockets will take on Cuyahoga Heights in the playoffs on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Open Door Christian. Good luck to the postseason Rockets!!
