The boys golf team had a great season with a record of 12-4 while also placing 3rd in the MVAC tournament. Everyone had some challenges as well as great memories.
David DiGiacomo is the new golf coach this year. He previously coached at Poland. He is a substitute teacher at Lowellville and wanted to thank the school by filling the role of the boys golf coach. Coach DiGacomo wanted to learn more about the team’s strengths and weaknesses. He noticed that the players did not panic if they missed a shot. They were able to reset and focus on the rest of the match. Coach DiGiacomo wants to build the team’s relationships and work on fundamentals during the off season. Next year, he plans to better prepare the team by scheduling more tournaments prior to the league tournament.
Drew Modelski is new to the golf team this year. Drew achieved his goal of trying to shoot under 50 this year, and had a great first year on the team. Drew’s favorite part was the friendships he made during the season. His favorite memory was making a 40 foot chip.
Drew said, “Next year I would like to qualify for the MVAC tournament.”
Zak Sargent, a junior at Lowellville, has been playing golf since his freshman year. His goal for this season was to shoot under 40, which he achieved by shooting a 38 at Salem Hills Golf Course. Zak aims to reduce the number of bogeys in his game to improve his overall score. One of his favorite memories was when the team placed third in sectionals, advancing to districts.Zak said, “I am looking forward to being better as a team and winning the MVAC tournament.”
Connor Anderson is a senior at Lowellville and has been playing golf for two years. Connor’s goal going into this year was to make it fun for the golf team and have a good last year. He is planning on continuing to play golf in his freetime. He is “most proud of the match that he shot under 50.” Connor hopes that everyone has a great season next year!
Reeve Donatelli is a junior at Lowellville and has played golf for three years. His favorite memory is when the team was undefeated for the first 7 matches of the season. Reeve is planning to join indoor golf leagues to prepare him for the upcoming season. He is looking forward to next season and building more as a team off of the previous year.
The boys are looking forward to next season and working on their skills in the off season to prepare for next year.
