During the holidays, popular coffee shops will add special items to their menu. This holiday season Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks both added many different holiday drinks and treats to their menus. Elizabeth Rossi and I had the opportunity to go and try different menu items from each place.
Starbucks has many new and returning flavors this year. The Sugar Cookie Almond Milk Iced Latte with the Sugar Cookie Cream Coldfoam, Caramel Brulee Latte, Cran-Merry Orange Lemonade Refresher, Snowman Cake Pop, and Cranberry Bliss Bar. The Sugar Cookie Almond Milk Latte with the coldfoam offered a sweet cookie taste topped with a sweet cold foam and sprinkles. This drink reminded me of the perfect Christmas season drink. I would definitely recommend the Cran-Merry Lemonade Refresher to anyone who enjoys cranberry juice. It was very refreshing and the hint of orange was perfect. Elizabeth tried the Caramel Brulee Iced Latte. Elizabeth said, “The Caramel Brulee Latte is my favorite holiday drink and I look forward to getting it again in the future.”
Lastly, we both tried the Snowman Cake Pop, which was the perfect treat for the holidays with the vanilla flavor and the snowman frosting design. Overall Starbucks Holiday Menu was very delightful and is perfect for the holiday season. We rate our trip to Starbucks a 9/10. We rate Starbucks at 9/10 for the new and exciting refresher and the returning coffee flavors. We would have loved some new coffee flavors but enjoyed the new refresher flavor.
Next, we decided to head to Dunkin Donuts to see what their holiday menu had to offer. We first tried the Cookie Butter Cold Brew with cream and sugar. This drink had the perfect amount of sweetness and bitterness. The cold foam added a sweetness while the cold brew balanced out this flavor. Elizabeth tried the Peppermint Mocha Latte, which she described as having the perfect mix of a peppermint and chocolate flavor. The Holiday Cookie Iced Signature Latte had a very sweet flavor. Overall our trip to Duncan was a success. We rate our trip a 9/10. We rated our trip to Dunkin a 9/10 for the coffee flavors and overall taste of the drinks.
Many students at Lowellville High School enjoy the holiday menus at these popular coffee shops. Senior Geno Perry said, “I enjoy looking at the holiday menus every year and seeing what they have added or changed.” Geno’s favorite drink is the Iced Sugar Cookie Almond Milk Latte. He said he liked the sweet cookie-like flavor of the drink.
Freshman Olivia Clement said her favorite menu item from Dunkin is the Cookie Butter Cold Brew. She shared she liked the sweet taste of the drink. Ella Cataldo shared her favorite Starbucks holiday drink is the Caramel Brulee latte. Sophomore Lily Sargent said her favorite Dunkin holiday drink is an “iced chai tea with peppermint because it is very warm and has a crisp taste. I look forward to the holiday flavors every year.”
In conclusion, many people enjoy the holiday flavors both Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks have to offer. Elizabeth and I agree that we enjoyed the coffee from Dunkin more but the refreshers from Starbucks had a better taste than the ones offered at Dunkin. In the future for the holiday drinks we would like to see more new flavors such as the Cran-Merry Orange Refresher. I believe new coffee and refresher flavors would make more people excited for the holiday menus.
