Hall of Fame coach Jim Tsilimos was set to join Lowellville for his 50th year of coaching, but six weeks after accepting the position he decided to step down. The Lowellville football team is now on the hunt for a new coach for the upcoming season.
I spoke with starting quarterback Ricky Willrich about the situation, and he said, “It’s unfortunate, but it could open the door to new opportunities and coaching philosophies.”
Ricky does not think this will impact the rest of the season. He says, “… it is very early still and there won’t be a lot of people applying for the job so we might have to stick with what we got.”
Linebacker AJ Boehlke will be a senior next year. AJ was upset with the coach leaving saying, “It’s upsetting and sad because he is a great coach and person and could have taught us a lot about the sport. He had a lot of coaching experience and is a hall of fame coach.”
AJ believes this could impact the season. “Possibly, because some of the players were building trust and a relationship with him and the staff.”
Daniel Huff, a potential starting running back, thinks Coach Tsilmos left for a good reason and he respects his decision. Daniel was excited being coached by Tsilmos stating, “I was excited because he had experience and he likes to run the ball a lot and I’m a running back.”
Daniel thinks this will impact the seasons because the off season is now starting later than expected.
Lowellville football players are now wondering, what is going to happen next?
