The 2025 Lowellville High School Track and Field season started off with an invitational meet on Saturday March 30, 2025 at the Mineral Ridge High School. The Lowellville track team placed 4th out of 22 teams. I interviewed students about the upcoming track season and their events.
Freshman Daniel Huff joined track his eighth grade year. He said, “It seemed like a fun sport and it helped me get in shape and increase my speed.” He runs the 100 and 200 Meter Dash. His favorite is the 100 meter dash because it helps him build endurance and speed. His favorite thing about track is being able to run against the schools that his friends go to and competing with them.
Paola Andino is a ninth grade track runner. Paola runs the 100, 200, and 400 Meter Dash. She enjoys running the 200 Meter Dash the most. “It is a mix of endurance and speed,” Paola said. Paola’s favorite thing about track is the experience and improving each practice.
Ricky Willrich, a sophomore, is going into his fourth year of track. Ricky joined track his 7th grade year to start conditioning for football. Ricky runs the 4 by 1, 4 by 2, 4 by 4, 4 by 8, 400, and the 800. His favorite thing about track is getting to meet new people from other schools and growing relationships with his friends from Lowellville.
Josh Pazel is a junior participant in track. Josh’s 6th grade football coach recommended him to participate in track in the following year to keep in shape for football. Josh wants to run the 400 at the OHSAA state track meet this year to prove that he can qualify in a solo event since he has gone to state in relays his freshman and sophomore year.
Nicholas Donatelli, the only senior in track, participates in shot put and discus. His favorite thing about track is talking to his friends and making memories.
Good luck to the Lowellville Track and Field team in the MVAC championship meet on May 13, 2025 at Springfield High School.
